From powerful, dynamic and seductive vocals on Walk Away to a dreamlike “other world” voice on Perfect For Me, Our Cousin Paula is a genre of her own.
The clarity and tone that she brought to her own songs like American Dreaming, Fire, Don’t Turn Around and many more startled and enchanted veterans of the music industry, who thought they had heard it all before.
Andrea Corr of The Corrs, Bill Whelan of Riverdance, and legendary producer David Foster, who has worked with singers like Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, and Barbra Streisand, were among those impressed with the quality of her voice and the maturity of her thoughtful lyrics.
In a jaded world of clichéd hits, these reflect intense personal experiences appealing to a generation “in a world where the young feel old.”
Our Cousin Paula sang and performed, opening for The Corrs in a 3,000 seater venue in Paris. She has played The Ruby Sessions in Doyle’s pub in central Dublin, a ‘secret’ venue where artists like Ed Sheeran, Hozier, and others discard their fame and fortune to get up close and personal with the small discerning audiences of music lovers.
“We haven’t produced one of those voices, old-world yet contemporary before,” says one music insider after hearing her perform.
But even in the mysterious world of show business Our Cousin Paula remains an enigma, a voice that defies categorisation and comes with a quiet intensity that has held audiences who heard it spellbound.
